NADEZHDA MARINCHEVSKA

BIOGRAPHY

Prof. Nadezhda Marinchevska, PhD, is a film critic and a long-standing researcher of animation films. She graduated in film studies from the former All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (present day Gerassimov State Institute of Cinematography) in Moscow, Russia. She works at the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and is head of the “Screen arts” department. Nadezhda Marinchevska was a long-time teacher in “History of Animation” and “Animation Film Dramaturgy” at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts “Krastyo Sarafov” and in “Audiovisual Language” at the New Bulgarian University. Nadezhda Marinchevska is an author of the books ‘Bulgarian Animation 1915-1995’ (2001), ‘Frames of Imagination. Aesthetics of Animation Techniques’ (2005) and ‘Animation Hybrids’ (2015). She has won the Union of Bulgarian Filmmakers’ Award for Film theory (2006) and the Bulgarian Film Academy’s Award for Film criticism (2014). She is the author of numerous publications in the area of animation films. She is a member of UBFM, of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists, the Society for Animation Studies and the International Federation of Film Critics FIPRESCI. She was a member of various juries at the international festivals in Annecy, France (in 2004 and 2008), Leipzig, Germany (2006), Krakow, Poland (2007), Athens, Greece (2008), Saraevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (2009), Lisbon, Portugal (2022), etc.
