THOMAS STELLMACH

BIOGRAPHY

Thomas Stellmach (*1965 in Straubing,
Germany) is a director, producer and
author of short animated films. He lives and
works in Kassel, Germany. Amongst 100
international awards for his independent
productions, he received the Academy Award
(Oscar®) for the stop-motion film QUEST
in 1997. He studied animation with the
cartoon animator Paul Driessen at the Kassel
College of Art. In 2000, after completion of
his artistic studies, he founded together with
two partners the animation studio “Lichthof
– Film & Animation” in Kassel specialized
for TV and advertising. Stellmach left the
company in early 2009 to concentrate on
artistic animation projects.
His films are produced in stop-motion, 2D
and 3D computer animation, pixilation,
experimental ink animation in stereoscopic.
Stellmach moderates his ‘Trickfilm-Show’,
holds animation workshops and does
audiovisual performances with animation,
presented by Zoetropes and other optical
devices.
